Symbiosis: BTG Labs and Vapormatt

BTG Labs looks forward to co-hosting a booth with Vapormatt at The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo (CAMX) 2016. The expo will take place September 26-29, 2016 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. This event emerged from a collaboration between the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE) two of the leading representatives of the composites and advanced materials industry.

CAMX connects various members of the world’s diverse composites and advanced materials communities. These industries range from medical to aerospace to energy, and more. This gives members of this community to share, learn, and connect on the latest advancements of the industry.

CAMX 2016

BTG Labs and Vaportmatt retain a symbiotic relationship in the world of surface preparation. Vapormatt produces highly effective wet blasting technology while BTG’s Surface Analyst provides verification of their product. Vapormatt’s surface finishing process uses a combination of compressed air, water, and an abrasive media to finely etch the surface of composite compounds, thus creating an adhesion ready surface. The water acts as a lubricant and a buffer to access complex surfaces. This process leaves composites with a higher surface energy that more strongly bonds to adhesives. As the demand for composites grows, so too does the demand for surface preparation processes like wet blasting. Finally, Surface Analyst verifies this process as effective and efficient.

Vapormatt and BTG Labs Booth Featuring Demonstrations

The Vapormatt/BTG Labs booth, located at booth H51, features the Panther machine to demonstrate wet blasting on multiple surfaces. The Surface Analyst, will act as a verification that the surface energy of these surfaces has indeed risen to the desired level.

Furthermore, the Surface Analyst will be featured in a presentation given by Justin Massey, a Materials Engineer from NAVAIR. His presentation, “In-Situ Repair Quality Assurance Tool for Inspection of Metallic Surface Preparation” will be featured in the “Design, Analysis, and Simulation” symposiums.
